Micro Jigs and Kaburas are working well on the snapper at the moment.

There’s some really good snapper from 40-47 metres, although they are spread out. You can find little work ups here and there. This is the time to use kaburas or micro jigs. Drop the kaburas to the sea floor, then move the lure slowly one or two winds up. The fish are down low so keep the lure in this area. Work micro jigs in the last five to six metres to the sea floor. Using a lighter leader, 10-20lb, gives a better lure action for more hook ups. Vary your technique to get onto some good snapper.

Skipjack tuna are still around! Troll for them with little lures or use micro jigs.

Kahawai seem to have moved from the Whangaparoa Peninsula east to Waiheke. There’s all sizes and they’re so much fun on light gear!
